Background

The event was the seventh time that the organization has held an event in Louisiana and first since UFC 37 in 2002.

The main event between Jake Shields and Jake Ellenberger was expected to be the first five round non-title fight in UFC history[3], but the fight was contested at three rounds instead.[4]

Mackens Semerzier was expected to face Mike Lullo at the event[5], but pulled out of the event on August 31[6] and was replaced by Robert Peralta[7]

DaMarques Johnson was expected to face Clay Harvison at the event[8], but pulled out of the bout with an injury on August 31 and was replaced by Seth Baczynski.[9] The Johnson/Harvison fight has been rescheduled for UFC on Fox: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos on November 12th, 2011.

Daniel Roberts was originally scheduled to face TJ Waldburger, but pulled out due to an injury and was replaced by Mike Stumpf.[10]

The entire preliminary card was streamed on Facebook.[11]
